Taiwan weather warnings are not a single switch between danger and safety. The Central Weather Administration publishes separate information for typhoons, heavy rain, strong winds, swell and other hazards. Its explanatory warning chart specifically advises continued attention to rain and wind notices after a typhoon warning is lifted.
That distinction is useful when planning travel, but this article is not a current weather bulletin. The CWA pages and explanatory chart were retrieved October 10, 2026. No active warning, storm track or weather condition is asserted here; use the current official notices for decisions on the day.
Match the information to the decision
The CWA English site provides city and county forecasts, township forecasts, seven-day forecasts and current conditions. Its sitemap also separates observations such as radar, precipitation and wind from forecast products. Choose the product that matches the question rather than treating every weather graphic as a prediction for the same place and time.
For a day trip, begin with the destination rather than the city where the journey starts. The service provides dedicated recreation categories including mountaineering, national parks, beaches and cycling. Those links are useful places to investigate the relevant setting; their existence does not mean an activity is safe or that a facility is open.
A weather forecast and an operator’s closure decision are different pieces of information. Check the transport provider or destination as well as the weather service. This is planning advice, not a claim that CWA itself determines whether a particular museum, trail or train service operates.
The chart’s warning-lifted section is particularly clear about the limits of that milestone. It says rain or strong-wind advisories may still require attention, and advises avoiding mountain and seaside activities after a typhoon because of landslide and wave risks. A lifted typhoon warning should not be rewritten as an official assurance that every outdoor destination is safe.
Swell information supplies another example of why appearances can mislead. The CWA chart explains that large waves can arrive at shore even when the nearby sea appears calm and local winds are light, particularly around an approaching typhoon. Do not use a scenic photograph or a brief look from a car as a substitute for the relevant coastal information.
Keep reading after the typhoon warning ends
The site offers precipitation observations at different time scales and locations, alongside forecast tools. A saved rainfall image should therefore retain its time and area when shared with someone else. Otherwise an observation about an earlier period can easily be mistaken for a forecast of what will happen next.
The useful habit is to separate forecast, observation, warning and operating status. Each can answer part of the question, and none should silently substitute for all the others. A plan becomes better informed when the reader knows which information is current, which place it covers and what remains to be checked.
